Unlike the ginger child that missed 'that flick'...

A cold wet afternoon started with Didsbury 4s travelling to Preston.

Sitting comfortably top of the league and against a side which they beat heavily at the start of the season they faced a new refreshed/ ringered Preston side. The pitch was cold and slippy and the Preston Ultras had enveloped one end of the pitch in thick smoke… presumably due to embarrassment, it was if they were trying to hide as much of Preston as they could.

A complacent Didsbury started slowly, but stepped after 10 minutes with 2 goals in quick succession coming thorugh Grim and Dunny. Expecting an old fashioned Didsbury 4s pummelling, a below standard performance followed.

Preston brought on a sub who for some reason couldn’t make it to the pitch in time for the warm up and suddenly they came roaring back into the match, scoring to make it 2-1… with their newly subbed on number 5 being the standout performer.

Further goals for Preston might have followed if it had not been for a great performance by Ross (@TheTopoftheD) in goal… btw thanks for the Instagram follow if you to also want great content and quality banter follow @minievans43 on Instagram. (HT 2-1)

Grim got us in at half time and had a bit of a frank talk, with everyone admitting we weren’t playing close to our full potential.

Before the second half started, Dunny whistled over to Preston’s number 5 ‘come on boy’ and he came over. Dunny signalled to his pocket and he just jumped in, not to be seen until the end of the game when he emerged looking sweaty and confused.

The second half started and by god did Didsbury turn in a good performance. Robin played like the Skittle man, but instead of everything he touches turning into Skittles, it turned into goals with 4 coming in the second half. Scottish Andy also chipped in with a goal.

The game ended up 7-2 with Preston scoring a jammy goal. THE END.

Only joking… the only real sour point came from when Preston blocked a shot on the goal line and Didsbury were awarded a penalty flick. Mini quickly shouted bagsy and somehow no-one told him he couldn’t… the bloody idiots!

Pressure and Mini don’t go well. This was made even worse by the time delaying tactics deployed by the Preston keeper. Mini had time to think, asking the difficult questions in life… am I really a goblin? If a bulldog and a Shitzu have a baby would that make it a bull-shit?

Mini went on to miss the flick and was quite rightly immediately subbed off by Grim. On his return he tried to restore some pride with an aerial through ball, but the resulting ‘squarial’ was a tribute to Pythagorus… going straight off the pitch at a perfect right angle.

With our MoM clearly evident and our DoD clearly crying we retired to the bar where we were served excellent home made pizzas by their number 5… proving that he is not just National League when it comes to hockey.
