A trip to Formby is like a visit to the Sexual Health Clinic… you never get excited by the prospect of it, but you find yourselves there at least twice a year.
Mini went about his match preparation in an unusual manner and shared a picture of himself looking like a plasterer’s radio... apparently he had a few of the 'lads' over the night before.
Shortly after pushback, it became clear that the mighty Didsbury thought this was going to be a formality... oh what a naive mistake to have made.
After applying pressure, Formby earned themselves a short corner. It wasn't exactly slick, but the ball found a gap between the GKs pads as he went to "log”… 0-1 to Formby.
Didsbury then missed a host of good chances as they tried desperately to level the scores.
A poor touch from Ayrton caused the ball to lift up off the pitch, but he managed to control the ball in mid air and then skilfully strode down the pitch doing keepy-uppies. This legendary dextrousness has apparently earned him the nickname of ‘The Finger King’ and a young female fan following. This showboating was ended abruptly when he was smashed across the hands by an over zealous Formby defender. There was initial panic as we feared the injury was a bad one. However, Didsbury’s very own Captain Birdseye Jnr was able to make a return later in the game much to the relief of many young girls in the South Manchester area.
This didn't exactly wake the Didsbury boys up, but they did manage to get a goal before half time and go in level… 1-1.
Whilst Grim said some half time stuff, our hero emerged... think Space Jam... when Buggs Bunny shares the "magic drink" with his teammates and they go on to defeat the aliens. Matt Paine took inspiration from this and ‘shared’ drinks amongst the team (they definitely weren’t stolen) and we went out and put Formby to the sword in the second half.
