The power of the mighty Grimbus 2000 unleashed...

You know how in Harry Potter we all knew that Harry was not very good at Quidditch, he just had the best broom out there… the Nimbus 2000. Well this is a tale of a Broom that found his Nimbus 2000.

It was a glorious double digit day in Manchester when the Mighty Didsbury 4's hosted Fylde 2's.

The line up had one notable omission and the captain said it was to avoid the player getting a card playing against his mates, but others believed it was so that we could have one more game of peace and quiet down the left hand side of the pitch.

The game started at a fast pace with Fylde having the better of the opening exchanges, pinning the 4s in their own half. The 4's however knew that this was a war of attrition, and Fylde with their bare 11 soon started to wilt.

Having found an opening at the top of the D, Broom (pre Nimbus) found his way through a couple of players before having his shot saved by the keeper, but managed to muscle his way over the line with the rebound to get the first goal. 1-0.

After celebrations had finished Broom realised his stick was in tatters and had to sub off for the wife beaterless Tom (not mad just disappointed).

Not a man to feel other mens sticks, Broom soon felt his way through three of them before finding the Nimbus 2000, which just happened to be El Capitano's only stick with less than a 45 degree bend on it. (*Captains Note: should that not be Grimbus 2000?)

Another 10min passed and the 4's were doing well, but hadn’t managed to find a 2nd goal. Broom subbed on for the skipper and great play immediate broke out. Tom found the back of the net with a fantastic shot on the turn after sublime passed from full kit Spenny and Dunny. 2-0.

Shortly after Nimbus showed its worth and powered a shot from the top of the D without giving the goalie a sniff that it had gone past him. 3-0.

The mighty 4s kept on going, managing to score a 4th courtesy of Lewis robbing the ball in midfield and driving past two players. Ben F had made a strong run to post-up and returned a Dutch ball back to Lewis who put it in the back of the net. It was a thing of beauty. 4-0.

The half time team talk, complete with a packet Haribo ensued and the message was simple… keep on going.

The second half started in a similar fashion, with Fylde benefiting from their half time break. However, this was short lived. The Nimbus wriggled its way into the D and let fly on the reverse only for El Capitano to steal the goal on the line. It is little wonder he has bruised feet every week, it’s the price a goal poacher pays throughout the season. 5-0.

Another 5 minutes passed and having been fed a glorious ball by Lewis, the Nimbus completed the hat-trick. 6-0.

Shortly after that Nimbus the let fly with a pass from half way line to find El Capitano in the D to deflect the ball, before trapping the rebound from the keeper’s pads and sliding the ball into the corner of the goal. 7-0.

Special mention to Ben F for doing so much running and passing that Grim did not have to leave the D all game! His performance really deserved a goal.

Then a scene which if it was not for the small chance of someone losing their life would have been more greatly appreciated. Having been fed a bouncing ball at the edge of the D and on a 45 degree angle to goal, Broom who is in the midst of cricket pre-season let fly with a glorious cover drive. It flew off Nimbus at such a savage pace the the first the keeper knew about it was as it smashed him in the helmet. Recreation in the link below: Thunderf*cked

The game ended with the 4s having a few more chances, but without yielding any goals. Laurence was unlucky to have a good finishchalked off as it had brushed a Didsbury foot on the way to him in the D.

Special mention goes out to the defence for getting another clean sheet… that's only 16 goals conceded in 21 games!

"Please observe a moment of silence for Grays Hockey. Having only ever used their sticks, I finally know what I have been missing out on all my life..." (R. Broom)
