The club’s rise in status continues as a record 8 Didsbury first teamers received Lancashire county call ups for last weekend’s Men's County Championships at Cannock. Captained by Didsbury 1st team skipper, Richard Hayward, Lancashire gave debuts over the weekend to Alex Arndt, Ash Spaulding, Matt Christian, Dursh Patel, Anthony Symondson, Chris Hannam and Ed Gibson.
After the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Herefordshire in the opening game, Lancashire responded well to see off Cumbria in a 7-5 goal fest with Didsbury’s Dursh Patel among the scorers. Further wins on Sunday, 5-1 against the Channel Islands and 7-3 against Wiltshire, saw Lancashire top their group and seal promotion to the B Division for next season.
Richard Hayward commented: ‘It’s a great mark of the progress this club has made in recent years to have such strong representation in the County squad. The lads have worked hard and really deserve their call ups. The experience of being involved in the tournament will be great for their development, so we’re looking forward to seeing the benefit next season.’
Congratulations to all involved!
