Athers takes Joker award with typical good grace...

Another away day, this time Fylde were our hosts. An 11:30am push back meant the meet would land right smack in the middle of the Rugby final. Paul used his local connections for good, identifying a sports bar 100 yards away from the match location. All our eager rugby fans weren't disappointed, oh wait, yes they were.

Once we all made the short 100 yard journey down to Fylde's clubhouse the team talk commenced (in changing room 2) although Alex, Paul, Ben and Paul had their own team talk in the real changing room 2.

The match started with both sides fairly evenly matched until we finally started to turn the screw, getting the ball down the wings and creating a number of opportunities but couldn't find that finishing touch. Fylde managed to get in behind the league's tightest defence not once but twice, only to find themselves up against some type of Crewe hooligan.

Finally the breakthrough came - a penalty corner was won and our aging Captain (AKA Mr Sour Grapes) somehow scored a worldie of a drag flick right, top bin and everything. At least he wasn't still sulking and sucking his sour grapes from last week...

The rest of the first half was pretty uneventful apart from the record crowd breaking out into song to wish Paul a Happy Birthday.

The second half got underway and the 4's pushed to increase their lead. Debutant Santana found space in the D and was stick blocked from getting a shock off on goal resulting in a penalty stroke being awarded. Step up... you knew it, Mr Sour Grapes himself. Deep breath, silence and wait, yes, you guessed it, the flick came closer to Blackpool beach than it did to doubling the lead.

The second half became even more eventful when Dunny set Paul free who drove into the D conceding a free hit, must to his frustration which led to a lack of discipline and Paul receiving his fifth birthday card of the day.

Another penalty corner was won but that didn't provide any entertainment, it was more Oli forgetting you can cross the half way line if your the attacking team, much to the amusement of everyone around him.

Oli redeemed himself shortly afterwards with a stinging reverse stick shot that was diverted in by Andy Devine for a debut goal.

Paul's birthday card seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game, with Fylde going on to receive 3 yellow cards of their own as we saw out another win, alongside another clean sheet.

7 wins from 7!!!

In the clubhouse afterwards Spence managed to bag himself the MoM prize and the DoD seemed like it could only go to one man this week, surely it would, Mr Sour Grapes. Somehow the vote ended 5 votes a piece to Paul and Mr Sour Grapes who used his captain superpowers to award the DoD to Paul.

Moral of the Story: Mr Sour Grapes is still shitter than Paul, but saved himself.

At least with Paul having an operation and unavailable for a few months Mr Sour Grapes won't have any further competition for DoD - until Mini returns that is.

Next week sees the big top of the table - an unbeaten record on the line.
