Saturday saw the first didsbury 7v6s El ClassicOak in years. The day started with 6s running through well rehearsed warmups, talks of W presses; the 7s figuring out who had turned up in time or had the correct hockey attire with their players in trainers or with away shirts on when we were in green.

A real mix of youth & experience lined up with 2 youth wingers and a youth right back and Guy Jack coming out of retirement at the other end of the scale in midfield for his first game in years and years.

The 7s kept the game down to just 1-0 at ht and continued on in a Great vein of hockey of defensively solid structures, simple passes and using the width skill and pace on the wings away from the 2 dangerous central midfielders.

Unfortunately a few moments of the better players speed and running beyond players made the difference, a defensive lapse for the second for grant to run beyond then a midfielder at CB and Jamie running from deep beyond his man for the third before a final past minute goal.

If the 7s play like this in other games this season they should be safe.
