I'm going to start and end today's report with some poems:
It was a cold, wet and depressing morning at the Armitage Centre. This was a big away fixture for the girls in green and I imagine the opposition were as surprised as we were that the season was actually going to start. City of Manchester looked like a solid group of ladies and that was before the game had started! All being said though they proved to be tough competition for the Mighty 2s.
It took Didsbury a little time to settle into the game and city capitalised on this; scoring a quick breakaway goal with a unremarkable reverse hit strike into the bottom left corner. Doing what the girls do best - a bit of pressure is what brings us alive. Boss man Kev gave us a stern talking to and we entered the second half rearing to go. Rainy was unfortunately a bit too eager and whilst she split the defense apart at times it was the splitting of herself that the fans will remember. However it wasn't just Rainy that was struggling with the wet pitch, I think Alice might need to invest in some new Astros too...
As the game continued Kate was having a chopping good time in the centre of the pitch (and a few times in our own D). Breaking down the play to our defences dismay.
At one point KK struck a sweet reverse into the D resulting in a goal mouth scramble but unfortunately no outcome.
Later some silky skills won Julie a series of short corners but outrageously the umpires disallowed Anita's cannon into the top of the net. Something about a high first shot but who really cares.
Midway through the second half after a spell of smooth play, Mary fired the ball high into the left side of the net to bring the home and away and away and home sides even.
Some great width was achieved by newbie Jade who is yet to receive her own shirt (this will take some time believe me...)
MOM: deservedly awarded to Jax and Julie with 5 votes each.
DOD: to the default as per.
Goal scorers: Mary x1
Great performance girls and let's bring on next week!
A final poem to finish:
