Rainy with her (nearly) weekly hold of the DOD reigns and match reporting...

Before we begin I just want to remind everyone what a crazy last year we have all had. 12 months ago no one had ever really heard of a Coronavirus. In fact if you'd asked me what furlough was I'd have guessed some kind of extravagant coat. There was a general election coming up and we were excited to be voting to finally hear the last of Brexit (and definitely with a deal...). In fact the Hong Kong protests were also yet to begin. What an insane 12 months it has been. But the main thing is it was around a year ago when we last won a bloody game of league hockey. And today that finally changed.

Hello girls it's that's time of the week again, another Saturday night another match report. 3 games in, 2nd report in the bag. That's a conversion rate even Coggs would be proud of! Let's kick things off.
It was a standard Autumnal day. The pressure was mounting on the girls to deliver a result after a disappointing loss last week. We were against top of the league and there was some clear experience on their side. Bowdon 3s bring it on!
It was a stirling first 15 minutes from Dids. From the off we were piling on the pressure, driving the ball down the wings in style. Bowdon weren't phased by this though, in fact they were so confident they initially decided they only needed to defend a short corner with 3 players! It was a ballsy move and upon seeing KK towering at the top of the D they quickly reconsidered and brought another player back.
It made no difference though and the girls in green slotted away their first goal of the match with a pinpoint slap from Rach for Mary to convert.
As the first half continued VB was taking no prisoners. Much like old lady Doris in the reduced aisle she muscled the Bowdon strikers off the ball, regaining possession and clearing it to Kat and Lucy on the wings.
Bowdon clearly didn't enjoy being on the back foot and looked to crash a number of balls 'route 1' up the pitch to their forwards. This was a style of play Didsbury were starting to become acquainted with in this league. Never the less bowdons efforts soon had them awarded a short corner and a REMARKABLE strike saw the ball sail into the side board. 1-1.
All was still to play for and Alice was great at putting the pressure on the right wing; denying Bowdon the vital exit route they were looking for. They clearly felt they couldn't deny the birthday girl some time with balls today.
Speaking of balls they continued to come flying up the pitch from Bowdon. Didsbury mids were losing shape and another short corner was awarded against them. A simple strike from the top, 2-1 down.
The Didsbury girls were in need a of a half time talk and none more so than Rainy, luckily for her she was awarded a green card for some chopping action. She was happy to report that she gave as good as she got though.
Restored, refreshed and pitch lights on at 4pm?! Let the second half commence! From the off Didsbury attacked hard and managed to win a flick. No Bowdon you are not allowed to control the ball with your knee on the line... Jax stepped up to do the honours but the umpires didn't make it easy for her. A double whistle really ramped up the pressure and an unfortunate double tap counted this goal out.
The game continued and Bowdon were still unable to count 1, 2, 3... oh and 4 outfield defenders behind the line please! They could have had 11 and it wouldn't have made a difference. Rach fired the ball in for an Anita deflection into the roof of the net! Back in the game 2-2 with 20 minutes to go.
The girls reset and 10 minutes later a wonderful spell of play emerged from Dids... Anita to KK to Ali to Mary!!! BOOM! Keep it family friendly - a ludricous wonder goal was scored!! It might have been Mary Mary quite contrary 2 weeks ago but it was Mary Mary hits it quite scary today. I think Bowdon might need to look into getting a new backboard soon.
Back to the game 3-2 up with 5 minutes to go. Defend defend defend! Possession was maintained, triangles were achieved, communication smashed! 3 well earned points in the bag!

Thanks girls and see you for another match report soon!

Goals: Mary x 2, Anita x 1
MOM: Mary
DOD: Yours Truly (Rainy)

To be sung in the tune of 5 keep on movin':
I woke up today with this feeling,
That better things are coming my way.
And if the sunshine has a meaning,
It's telling me Dids will win away.
When Rainys legs are dying, Dids gotta keep on keep on trying!
Ali in the mid, arials are flying,
Ahhhh-ahhh-ah-ah
Alice never let go, gotta hold on and
Non stop till Kate breaks it down and...
Mary's moving don't stop scoring
Ahhhh-ahhh-ah-ah
Get on up when your 2-1 down,
Didsbury take a better look around,
I know it's not much but it's okay,
We'll fight back and get 3 points anyway
